The first hours, in order
News from another country usually arrives by phone — from a hospital, the police, an employer or a relative. Nothing needs to be signed or paid for in that moment. Write down who called, from which institution, from what number, and where the person is now being kept. Those few lines will be asked for again at every stage that follows.
The next step is the Georgian embassy or consulate in that country. That is where the official side begins: the local death certificate, the medical statement of cause, and the permit to take the body out of the country. Which documents are needed, and who issues them?
Usually a local death certificate, a medical statement of cause, and a permit to remove the body. Local authorities issue the certificates; the embassy takes part in legalisation. The exact list depends on the country involved.
What does the stage inside Georgia cost?
Once here, transport within the city starts at 150 GEL and nationwide from 2.5 GEL per kilometre. A Mercedes-Benz hearse starts at 150 GEL, the Maybach is 1500 GEL, and the basic funeral package is 850 GEL.
